INDUSTRY news Fuel Prices Spike Following Harvey September started with some of the highest spot and futures prices for gasoline in a little more than two years as the impact of Hurricane Harvey is felt through large swaths of the country A bit of supply desperation has set in the Gulf Coast markets and stretched into the New York Harbor The major supply artery the Colonial Pipeline was struggling with operations due to a lack of fuel to keep operations running smoothly as a result of Harvey Violent price swings were common leading up to September and in recent weeks retail gasoline prices have moved up some 15 cents and there is more upside of the market as supplies tighten in the wake of the storm The first refineries to shut ahead of Hurricane Harvey in Corpus Christi Texas have begun the restart process and it is believed a few more in Galveston Bay Texas are also restarting The peak of refinery shutdowns on the Gulf Coast totaled from roughly 22 30 of total U S capacity Refineries that were able to operate during the storm found challenges in acquiring crude oil as imports were slowed due to closed ports and pipelines that were shut down as a result of the storm The current situation is testing the industrys mettle and without major damage to refineries that could keep several down for months supplies should be trending toward normal and prices should in turn recede CITY GASOLINE DIESEL Atlanta GA 230 255 Boston MA 239 261 Chicago IL 251 251 Dallas TX 224 234 Denver CO 231 242 Detroit MI 249 266 Houston TX 213 229 Los Angeles CA 308 299 Memphis TN
